Stained Glass: Artistic Narratives in Education, Marketing, and Beyond
Stained Glass and Storytelling
Stained glass has been traditionally used to tell stories, particularly in religious settings. Medieval cathedrals’ windows often showed scenes from the Bible, the lives of saints, and moral teachings. These windows served as both artistic expressions and educational tools for communities that frequently lacked literacy. The use of light and colour in stained glass can evoke feelings, emphasise important parts of a story, and help viewers understand and interpret the tale being told.
Real World Case: MSc FinTech and Business Analytics
The project creators believe that stained glass’s storytelling ability can greatly enrich student learning. For instance, in our MSc FinTech and Business Analytics course, we incorporate “exhibition venue” sessions. These sessions showcase stained glass images that visually depict historical financial events, intricate financial concepts, or data patterns. This approach allows students to delve into, explore, reflect on, identify mistakes, suggest improvements, and discuss the deeper contexts conveyed by the images. As a result, it fosters a more profound learning experience.
The Power of Stained Glass in Storytelling and Its Applications
The ability of stained glass to tell stories and convey complex information in an engaging and visually appealing manner extends beyond education. In marketing and public relations, stained glass can be used to create compelling visual narratives that capture the essence of a brand or a campaign. The rich colours and intricate designs draw attention and evoke emotions, making messages more memorable and impactful.
For example, a company might use stained glass motifs in its advertising to symbolise tradition, craftsmanship, and quality. In public relations, stained glass can be employed to visually represent data in press releases or reports, making information more accessible and interesting to a broad audience. The versatility and beauty of stained glass make it a powerful tool for communication in various contexts.
International Collaborations and Future Opportunities
The project creators are proud to collaborate with institutions and professionals worldwide who share our passion for innovative educational tools and storytelling techniques. Our use of stained glass in the MSc FinTech and Business Analytics program is just one example of how art and technology could be integrated to enhance learning and engagement. The project creators welcome ideas and collaborations from others who are interested in exploring the potential of stained glass and other artistic mediums in education, marketing, and beyond.
